Balances and settle-up
Read the balances, check suggested payments, and record repayments.
01
What a balance means
TmCount compares what each person paid with their share of the costs. A positive balance means the group owes them money. A negative balance means they owe the group.
Balances include the expenses, income, and transfers you’ve recorded. A change in balance doesn’t charge anyone or send a payment.
02
Suggested payments
TmCount suggests payments that settle the group’s balances with fewer transfers. You can follow these suggestions or agree on a different payment and record it as a transfer.
Suggestions can change when you add, edit, or delete entries. Check the balances before paying, especially when several people are settling up at once.
03
Recording a repayment
Pay through your bank, in cash, or however you prefer. Then record a transfer in the group. Without that entry, TmCount will still show the amount as owed.
A personal group with only one member has nobody to repay. The balance and settle-up tools are for shared groups.
04
Finishing a group
After everyone has paid and the transfers are recorded, the balances should be close to zero. You can archive the group to keep it off your main list. Duplicating it for another trip copies its structure without carrying over old debts.
If a balance looks wrong, check for missing expenses, incorrect shares, or repayments that haven’t been recorded before sending more money.
